Enyeama wants Nations Cup cancelled

image

Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama hopes the 2015 Africa Cup of
Nations is cancelled to help stop the spread of the deadly Ebola
virus.

Hosts Morocco have asked the Confederation of African Football to
postpone the 17 January to 8 February event but the organisers
have refused.

Enyeama said: “I really hope it doesn’t happen. It is risky, in Africa
everyone is hugging you and shaking your hand.

“But if Caf says it will happen I will play – if Nigeria qualify.”
Moroccan officials are set to meet with Caf on 3 November to
discuss their request to postpone the tournament.

The Ebola virus has already claimed more than 4,500 lives since
the outbreak in west Africa in March and Moroccan youth and
sports minister Mohamed Ouzzine fears a big sporting event with
large gatherings of people could lead to many more cases.

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen to donate $100m to tackle Ebola

image

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, 61, who is worth about
$17billion, announced today October 23rd that he will donate $100
million to the fight against Ebola, which has killed thousands of
people all around the world. This donation makes him the largest
individual donor in the Ebola crisis so far.

“Everybody feels called sometimes to really pursue a certain
thing that resonates with them, and this has resonated with
me. We’re up against an extremely tough opponent here. The
exponential nature of the growth of this disease is really a
challenge – we’ve already seen in the U.S. where one case
quickly became two.” Allen told NY Times.

image
Donald Trump

Following the new cases of Ebola diagnosed in the US, billionaire
business mogul, Donald Trump has once again called for the stop
of all flights to and from West Africa. He’s so frustrated about the
situation, he called his president a psycho. I guess screening
at the airport is not enough for him.

Easy, Mr Trump. Easy.

US tracking 132 air passengers who traveled on same flight with 2nd Ebola patient

image

Oh dear! This is not good at all. The US Center for Disease Control
and Prevention is currently trying to track down 132 air
passengers who flew from Cleveland to Dallas on Monday October
13th after they found out that the second Ebola patient from the
Texas Presbyterian Hospital flew on the same flight that day. The
unidentified healthcare worker didn’t show any sign of having the
virus until late yesterday. So everyone she’s had close contact
with has been exposed. Ebola is officially in the US.

Ebola death toll climbs to 4,447

image

The death toll from the Ebola virus outbreak has risen to 4,447,
with the large majority of victims in West Africa, the World Health
Organization (WHO) says.

WHO assistant director-general Bruce Aylward also said there
could be up to 10,000 new cases a week within two months if
efforts were not stepped up, But the rate of new infections in some areas has slowed down, he added.

Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea have been hardest hit by the
outbreak.

There have been 8,914 cases overall, including the fatal cases, and
the WHO says it expects this number to top 9,000 by the end of the
week.

The WHO estimates its figures by taking the numbers of confirmed
cases and multiplying them – from Guinea by 1.5, from Sierra Leone
by 2 and from Liberia by 2.5 – to account for under-reporting.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg donates $25m to help fight Ebola

image

Facebook founder and the 13th richest person in the world, Mark
Zuckerberg, estimated to be worth over $30billion just announced
on his Facebook page that he’s donating $25 million to the
Centers for Disease Control Foundation to help fight Ebola.
Continue to read the statement he released…

Priscilla and I are donating $25 million to the Centers for
Disease Control Foundation to help fight Ebola. The Ebola
epidemic is at a critical turning point. It has infected 8,400
people so far, but it is spreading very quickly and projections
suggest it could infect 1 million people or more over the next
several months if not addressed.

We need to get Ebola under control in the near term so that it
doesn’t spread further and become a long term global health
crisis that we end up fighting for decades at large scale, like
HIV or polio.

We believe our grant is the quickest way to empower the
CDC and the experts in this field to prevent this outcome.
Grants like this directly help the frontline responders in their
heroic work. These people are on the ground setting up care
centers, training local staff, identifying Ebola cases and
much more.

We are hopeful this will help save lives and get this outbreak
under control.

Quite a good man, I must say.

And they have started denying admission to Nigerian students because of Ebola

image

Hmm. What type of action is this one na?

Despite being an Ebola-free country, some universities in the US
are now rejecting Nigerian students admission. Twitter user
@Idrisayobello shared one of those rejection letters on twitter and
wrote, “Ironic that NavarroCollege only 31 miles away from Dallas
with an active # Ebola case is denying admission to Nigerians who
are ebola-free!” .

This is outrageous, and that is putting it mildly!

Ebola now in the US

Now the US is officially worried. A health worker who helped in the treatment of Liberian man, Thomas Eric Duncan, who died on Wednesday October 8th, at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas, has contracted the disease.
Dallas state health officials released a statement today revealing
the first case of Ebola transmission in the US.

“We knew a second case could be a reality, and we’ve been
preparing for this possibility. We are broadening our team in
Dallas and working with extreme diligence to prevent further
spread.” Texas health commissioner Dr. David Lakey said.

The worker has been isolated since Friday night October 10th but
his/her identity has not disclosed.

I am worried too.
